Outdoor and Environmental Education minor

Outdoor & Environmental Education is a methodology for educating people in, for and about the outdoors. Classes stress hands-on, participatory learning incorporating discovery and exploratory education methods. Students learn to extend the classroom curriculum outdoors using interdisciplinary and supplemental resources and activities. Environmental education and interpretation of cultural and natural resources are also incorporated into the Outdoor & Environmental Education "umbrella" of disciplines.

Students with this minor and strong science backgrounds may be employed in nature centers, parks, natural resource management agencies, nonprofit organizations (Nature Conservancy, National Wildlife Federation, etc.), zoos, museums, Outdoor & Environmental Education centers, and camps. Students who are preparing to become teachers find this minor valuable as a way to incorporate outdoor and environmental education methodology and resources into their curriculum areas.
