Centralis Scholarships
You are a high school senior who has a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. You have demonstrated outstanding academic performance.
Now, you have the opportunity to compete for one of Central Michigan University’s prestigious Centralis Scholarships. In addition to helping to fund your education, these awards will provide opportunities for you to further develop your talents and intellect as you prepare for your future.

Centralis Scholar Award
20 awards available
$86,400 four-year total • $21,600 per academic year
This scholarship covers the cost of 36 credits of tuition, room & board, and $500 for general expenses per academic year.
Centralis Gold Award
20 awards available
$51,552 four-year total • $12,888 per academic year
This scholarship covers the cost of your tuition for up to 36 credit hours per academic year, including summer sessions.
Other awards for top Centralis competitorsAdditional one-time scholarships of $5,000 and $2,500 also are available for top competitors.
Centralis Competition
During this half-day program you and your parents will discover how CMU’s programs and services will help you to reach your academic and career goals. You will have opportunities to:
- Receive information about CMU’s academic programs during special forums
- Explore CMU’s advanced on-campus facilities
- Attend panels on financial aid, residence life, career possibilities and the Honors Program
You also will have an hour to express yourself in an Centralis essay. The topic of the essay, which provides CMU with a sample of your writing, will be available at the competition.
Centralis Award Process
To be considered for a Centralis Scholarship:
- Register online or by phone to reserve your place at the December 2 Centralis Scholarship competition.
- Apply for admission to CMU. Be sure to submit your official high school transcripts and ACT or SAT scores along with your application.
- Attend the Centralis Competition note: If you haven’t applied for general admission by December 2, you can bring your completed application and support materials to the competition or complete your application at the competition. All materials must be postmarked by Dec. 2, 2011.
Award notification
Final scholarship decisions will be made in January, and scholarship recipients will be notified in early February.
Honors ProgramAs a Centralis Scholarship recipient you will enrich your studies through the CMU Honors Program , where you will:
- Receive personal faculty mentoring
- Have priority status when registering for courses
- Enroll in Honors courses and seminars
- Acquire foreign language skills
- Volunteer for community service
- Complete a senior Honors research project in your major field of study
