Entry Requirements

Michigan Professor of the Year Gary Gagnon

You should apply for admission as soon as you decide to attend CMU - preferably within the first few weeks of your senior year in high school.

CMU receives more than 16,000 applications each year - the third largest number of applications received by public universities in Michigan. Each year our freshman class of approximately 3,700 is filled on a rolling basis, and we close admission when our freshman class is full.

We take a holistic view of a student's application and carefully review each one. The following factors are considered in this process:

  • Overall grade point average
  • ACT test scores
  • Rigor of high school courses
  • Extra-curricular and leadership activities
  • Work experience
  • Volunteer service

Central's freshman class has an average high school grade point average of 3.33 and an average ACT score of 23. Along with being good students, successful CMU students tend to be well rounded in activities, interests and involvement.

We attempt to process applications as quickly as possible, but due to the large volume, processing time may currently take approximately three weeks or more. Should you have questions, please contact us toll free at 1-888-292-5366 or e-mail us at cmuadmit@cmich.edu. Thank you for your interest!
