College Planning Guide

Your son or daughter is interested in applying to college. So where do you start?

Central Michigan University offers a very easy application process for you and your student.

Visit our Applying to Central site, which covers the information listed here in more complete detail.

Here are the four basic steps of application and enrollment at CMU:

First Point Apply

CMU accepts rolling applications so there is no specific deadline, but we prefer that students apply early in their senior year of high school for priority consideration and ideally no later than Dec.1. Fee: $35. Students will be notified within three weeks. Apply online here or by mail. Students who are applying to CMU must have their counselor submit a form verifying their academic standing. You can access the form here.

Second Point Figure out finances

CMU offers one of Michigan's most affordable college educations. Please have students fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by Feb. 15. CMU's Title IV School Code is 002243. This information helps our financial aid office create a financial package customized for each student. Students can also check out our scholarships.

Third Point Admission

Your student will receive a packet in the mail notifying them of her or his admission. Orientation and residence hall information will be included.

Fourth Point Orientation

CMU's orientation programs, held from May through August, are designed to help students and their families get to know the university and feel comfortable on campus.
