Tips from CMU Transfer Students
Here are a few experiences and tips CMU transfer students shared with future transfer students. Check out CMU admissions representative Bob Garcia’s advice for transfer students here.
Transfer student: Christopher Johnson, psychology junior
His experience: “The process for me transferring to Central was extremely easy and smooth. Some of my biggest concerns were if my credits were going to transfer and if I could handle being at a big university. Most of my credits transferred and going to a big university has been a great experience so far. The atmosphere is amazing and all the people are nice.”
His advice: “The best advice I could give to someone transferring to Central is if you’re confused or anything just ask someone for help because everyone and anyone will try to help you and if they can’t they will send you to someone who can.”
Transfer student: Jennifer Robertson, integrative public relations senior
Her experience: “The major I chose, integrative public relations, is unique in that it includes coursework from so many disciplines. I also recently signed an events management minor, which I may have never found at other universities. I have found my professors to be very personable and helpful, and may not have gotten the same experience at a larger university."
Her advice: “Once you decide to transfer, find the right organization or academic major that you are passionate about, and get as much experience in it as you can. It may help to make the transition easier, and gives you a reason to be grateful for your choice.”
Transfer student: Patricia Card, social work senior
Her experience: “As a social work major, a large part of my future will involve advocacy and volunteer work. I am afforded so many opportunities to learn about important issues through campus events such as speakers and forums. I also have many opportunities to get involved in volunteer work on campus and in the community that will help shape my future career goals. You won’t find a campus like Central’s anywhere else – friendly and the right size.”
Her Advice: “Pay attention at orientation – don’t rush through it. It’s very informative for becoming more familiar with campus.”
