On-Campus Course Pack Guidelines for Faculty
- Course packs are for required materials.
- Course packs that do not have copyrighted materials, such as cartoons, articles, and book excerpts, included in them can be dropped off at CMU Printing Services or any copy center affiliated with Printing Services. Instructors will be asked to sign a statement confirming no copyrighted materials are included in the pack.
- The CMU Bookstore, located in the Bovee University Center, will
- Obtain copyright clearance, either through the Copyright Clearance Center or by contacting the copyright holders directly.
- Provide the required Copyright Management Information on the first page of each original as required by each copyright holder to Printing Services.
- The first time copyright permission is requested for course pack materials, the requests should be submitted on forms which can be obtained by accessing the web site, http://www.cmich.edu/copyright. On the menu to the left, click on Copyright Assistance and then click on Copyright Permission Request Forms. The forms can be filled out and submitted directly to the CMU Bookstore by accessing the web site.
Note: If you are reusing material from a previously established course pack through the CMU Bookstore, simply fill out the Requester Information Form. No other forms are required.
- For optimal results, the deadline for submission of course packs is ten weeks prior to the start of class, whether for first time or subsequent use.
- If permission is denied or the copyright holder cannot be located for a particular item, it cannot be included in the course pack; copyright clearance for a substitute item may be requested.
- Course packs will be sold through the CMU Bookstore so the students’ financial aid accounts can be charged.
- If a substitute professor is brought in to replace a professor who has requested a course pack for that class, the substitute professor will be asked to use the course pack already ordered by the original professor for that semester.
