With its nationally recognized life sciences program and unmatched access to communities in central and northern Michigan, CMU is the best possible site for a new College of Medicine. And since experts estimate a shortage of 6,000 physicians in Michigan by 2020, it is coming when the state and nation need it the most. The emphasis of the College of Medicine will be to prepare students for practice in mid- to northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula, with particular attention to primary care needs in the region.

Significant strides have been made in launching the College of Medicine, which plans to enroll the inaugural class of 100 students in the fall of 2013. CMU has been granted applicant school status by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education, the accrediting body for M.D. degree programs in North America. Multiple hospitals across the state are working in partnership with the university and will serve as sites for the clinical education of its students.

Central Michigan University's College of Medicine will be located in a $24 million, 60,000-square-foot addition to the Health Professions Building, scheduled to be completed early in 2012. Housing clinical exam rooms, group study rooms, simulation rooms and anatomy labs, the addition will be designed for silver-level LEED certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. CMU, with your support, is answering the call to shape a healthy tomorrow by providing state-of-the-art medical education today. The ground is broken. The future is bright. Now it is time to begin.
