Coach Sue Guevara has the attention of women's basketball coaches in the Mid American Conference and fans in the Mt. Pleasant community. Since her arrival at Central Michigan University in April of 2007, Coach has challenged everyone she encounters to Embrace the "C". The future of the basketball program at CMU is in good hands with this energetic, motivational leader at the helm. Today, Coach G will let everyone know her vision of Embracing the C. Sue will also discuss the benefits the Events Center project brings to the community and to the athletics programs. This project truly illustrates the university's incredible investment and commitment to enhancing the overall student experience. Jack R. Westbook is a retired editor of the Michigan Oil and Gas News Magazine. In his book, Central Michigan University (a pictorial book for Arcadia Publishing Company's Campus History series) he applies the journalist's eye to the shapers of the school's heritage and buildings that honor them. Vintage photographs from Clarke Historical Library and Mount Pleasant Area Historical Society, along with some modern scenes, plus concise captions vividly tell the Central Michigan University story Join us as Mr. Westbrook brings his book to life with his presentations, sharing a unique view into CMU's vibrant history!

CMU Biological Station on Beaver Island: Past, Present & Future
The College of Science and Technology at Central Michigan University
The College of Science and Technology is the product of a long and rich history of science education at Central Michigan University. Science, mathematics, engineering, and technology are potent forces in our society. Today, science and technology education at CMU involves more than 50 undergraduate and 12 graduate programs supported by eight departments, more than 200 faculty and an ever-widening national reputation of academic excellence.
With all the environmental issues facing us today, promoting research and training scientists is imperative for the future. The CMU Biological Station is unmatched in its opportunities for the study of aquatic and terrestrial environments, as well as its potential for promoting awareness and conservation of freshwater ecosystems. The opening of the new Academic Center and recent land acquisitions on Beaver Island have positioned the Station to be a premier research and teaching center.
Today's presentation, CMU Biological Station on Beaver Island: Past, Present & Future, is presented by Dr. James C. Gillingham. Dr. Gillingham is a Professor of Biology at CMU and Director of the Central Michigan University Biological Station on Beaver Island since 1985. Dr. Gillingham teaches General Zoology, Animal Behavior, and Herpetology, and his current research projects include reproductive behavior of the Tuatara in New Zealand, Predatory impact of the Double-crested Cormorant on the small bass fishery in the Beaver
Archipelago in Northern Lake Michigan and Behavioral ecology of the Eastern Ribbon Snake on Beaver Island. Jim is a one-of-a-kind faculty member. He is passionate about the Biological Station and under his direction it has grown and flourished.

Body Basics for Women
Health Professions Education at Central Michigan University
One of the newest and the smallest college at CMU, The Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow College of Health Professions has the highest number of graduate students on campus and provides extensive clinical training through nationally ranked programs, such as Physician Assistant, Exercise Science, Athletic Training, Speech-Language Pathology, Physical Therapy, Audiology, and Healthcare Administration.
Maintaining good health is crucial in women's overall quality of life and influences their ability to care for themselves and their family. Many of the College's faculty teach and conduct research in a variety of areas that affect women's health through the lifespan, including physical fitness, nutrition, and stress management.
Today's presentation "Body Basics for Women - the importance of core strength, muscle balance, and enjoying who you are" is presented by Janet Smith, professor in the Physical Education and Sport Department, who has worked and taught in the fields of Athletic Training, Physical Education, and Exercise Science. She is currently teaching courses in Motor Development, Methodology of Fitness and Aerobics, and Aerobic Kickboxing. She has conducted research in the area of body image related to media influences and exercise. She is passionate about helping others experience the joy and wellness in movement. To more fully participate with the demonstration portion, please feel free to dress informally.

CMU Student Music Theatre Performance
Music Theatre at Central Michigan University
Although only in its sixth year, the BFA-Music Theatre major at CMU has proven to be one of the most exciting and visible programs on campus. Music Theatre majors are featured in University Theatre productions, Orchesis dance productions, and of course, the very popular Broadway musicals that are the mainstay of the program. Current undergraduates have attracted the attention of agents and producers in the New York City Showcase performances, and graduates have performed in national tours of Oklahoma!, at major resort venues, professional theatre companies, and on cruise ships such as Norwegian Cruises and Celebrity Cruises. The students are talented, hard working, energetic, and disciplined. CMU could not ask for better representatives who demonstrate the educational and cultural legacy of the university.

CMU's Apparel Merchandising and Design
CMU's Apparel Merchandising and Design provides students with real-world experiences in aesthetic and functional design, marketing and retailing of apparel and textiles. AMD students benefit from state-of-the-art CAD facilities, internship opportunities, international study, exceptional faculty and an active student organization.
Graduates of the program find career opportunities in fashion illustration, store management, fashion buying, fashion promotion, fashion journalism, apparel stylist, quality control, textile research and development, product development, theatrical costuming and as museum curators.
