Services

Attack Recognition

IT actively monitors the network and can assist colleges and departments with identifying and mitigating security issues through a variety of host and network-based solutions.

Network Vulnerability Scanning

IT will work with local area administrators to perform vulnerability scans on request.  Based on the information discovered, a plan can be developed to mitigate any outstanding Security risks discovered.

Consulting

SIRT members are available for consultation about a range of security issues, including compliance assistance with the new Data Stewardship Policy that went into effect January 1st, 2009.

Incident Response

SIRT maintains a group of technical personnel trained in incident response methodologies.  They can verify that an incident has occurred, contain the incident and acquire evidence using industry-standard practices.  Upon completion of these steps, SIRT can assist in the eradication of the root cause and provide guidance on system recovery.  Evidence is turned over to IT personnel trained in forensic analysis.  Depending on the nature of the evidence, it may further be turned over to law enforcement.

Awareness and Education

SIRT will be engaging the campus community to raise awareness of various security issues.
