Campus Computer Labs/Access

State-of-the-art instructional and student technology labs equipped with Mac and PC workstations, laser printers, and scanners are strategically located throughout the campus to provide easy access for students and faculty with valid CHIP cards and global IDs. Many instructional student labs operate extended daily hours and weekends.

Public Computer Labs

Woldt Lab Lower level Woldt Hall; phone 774-1014. The Woldt Computer Lab provides a general computing environment for all CMU students to conduct research, complete homework assignments, and carry out electronic communication. The lab contains 132 workstations (MS Windows XP and Macintosh OS X platforms available), along with 3 B&W laser printers, 2 Color laser printers, and many color scanners.

College/Department Computer Labs
More than 200 undergraduate and graduate programs provide hands-on experiences with specific kinds of software, hardware, and technical equipment. Some specialized resources include:

Applied Business Studies Complex - CBA Technology Services, phone 774-3966. College of Business Administration Computer Center with more than 100 state-of-the-art PCs; DOW SAP Learning Center with about 50 networked PCs for learning SAP; DaimlerChrysler lab with about 30 networked PCs.

CHSBS/Anspach Hall Computer Labs - Anspach 251, 252, 253; office phone 774-1229, lab phone 774-6600. More than 60 networked PCs for word processing, basic writing skills instruction, Web page design, and humanities and language applications.

College of Science and Technology - has available one of the most powerful supercomputers on a Michigan campus, as well as an astronomical observatory with a computer controlled telescope, a confocal laser microscope lab, a GPS lab, and other labs for biology, chemistry, geology, mathematics, meteorology, and physics comprising more than 500 computers throughout the campus.

Pearce Computer Center - Pearce Hall 422; phone 774-3922. PC, Mac, and Unix computers are available in six different labs for mathematics and science applications.

Engineering and Technology (ET Building) - CAD/CAM, robotics, automation, and materials testing labs.

EHS/Dow Multimedia Lab and Instructional Materials Center - EHS 134, phone 774-3549. Three labs with more than 90 Mac computers, digital photo and scanning equipment, and other teacher training hardware and software.

Music - labs equipped with computers, CD recording equipment, synthesizers, and more.

Residence Halls
The University provides four free Ethernet connections to each residence suite for personal computers. There are also eight computer labs and one computer center available for membership to students who live in residence halls. The labs are open 24 hours per day, seven days a week, when the residence halls are open. Personalized support is available for hardware and software problems.

University Apartments
All University Apartments are wired for Ethernet access. The apartments are wired one network jack per bedroom. Each student must supply his or her own computer, network card and network cabling. All IP addresses are assigned dynamically.

Charles V. Park Library
Most of your research at CMU's libraries can be done electronically. You can search through Park Library's nearly one million books and other resources using CENTRA, an online catalog of library holdings. For more in-depth research, you can access more than 50 online journals and academic resources such as Lexis-Nexis, ERIC, and MEDLINE.

In addition, Park Library offers:

320 public workstations with fast processors, read/write CD drives, DVD drives, Internet connections, 19-inch color monitors, and software including Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, FrontPage, Adobe Acrobat Reader, and Quicktime.
