Parking Services

Parking Services

The Parking Services division of the CMU Police Department distributes parking permits and maintains all related records. This area is also responsible for the record keeping and collection efforts associated with parking tickets. In this Web page we have tried to answer the most frequent questions and provide as much information as we can.

Dial (989) 774-3083 Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. or email Kim Roshak for answers to your questions concerning parking permits, parking tickets and billing, and parking locations.

Vehicle Registration

All cars parking on the campus of Central Michigan University must be registered with the CMU Police Department. The only exception is metered lots and special pre-arranged group parking. All faculty and staff members may pre-register online  by July 31st for your parking permit.  It is wise to take advantage of this online pre-registration. It will save you from standing in lines when the first week of school rolls around. All students may pre-register online at for your parking permit from April 1st to July 31st for the academic year. Permits are mailed to your permanent home address by the second week of August.

Your student account is not charged for the permit until after the permit has been mailed. When you arrive on campus August, you will be glad you already have your parking permit and don't have to stand in the LONG lines to purchase one.

Parking Lot Restrictions

Parking permit requirements are in effect Monday through Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. during the calendar year unless otherwise posted.

CMU parking meters require money to be deposited Monday through Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. except for university recognized holidays.

Parking is prohibited in all CMU parking lots between the hours of 2:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m., seven days a week except for resident lots. Non resident lots include all faculty/staff lots, commuter lots, metered lots, and visitor lots unless an overnight visitor permit has been issued for that location.

All parking areas are designated for specific permits as posted.
