Know Your Rights and Responsibilities
|
As members of the Central Michigan University community, students enjoy a relationship with Mount Pleasant and Isabella County. Rights to city services as well as responsibilities as community members come with this relationship. These are the same rights and responsibilities that apply to all city and county residents, and CMU students living both on- and off-campus are encouraged to become familiar with them.
Michigan's "zero tolerance" drunk driving law calls for heavy and automatic penalties for those who are under age 21 and found to have ANY amount of alcohol in their systems while driving. The first time a chemical test shows that a driver under age 21 has consumed alcohol, the driver will automatically lose his or her license for 30 to 90 days, have four points added to his or her driving record, and be required to pay fines, perform community service, or both. All state and federal laws apply on campus as well as off campus. CMU police are fully authorized to enforce the law on campus as well as in the community. |
