Each residence hall room contains:*

  • Individual desks and desk chairs
  • Cable hook-up

  • Curtains on all windows

  • Single beds (majority are bunked)
  • Extra-long single mattress (36"x80")**
  • Mattress pad
  • One or two dressers

**The CMU Residence Hall Assembly has found a convenient, affordable way to ensure you have sheets that will fit the extra-long mattresses in our residence halls. The Residence Hall Linens program www.rhl.org/cmi offers extra-long twin sheets and comforters as well as matching towels and storage items. Proceeds from this program go to the CMU Residence Hall Assembly and are used for programming in the CMU residence halls. For more information please visit the RHL website: www.rhl.org/cmi.  

Unless you know all your roommates and what they will be bringing to campus, we suggest you pack conservatively when you first move into your hall. Many students go home over Labor Day weekend and bring back things they have forgotten or decide they need at that time.

Many students choose to rent a loft or futon from www.bedloft.com, the only university approved loft provider. A loft will create additional space to place a futon or other items to make your room feel more like home. These types of lofts are only available for students living in Barnes, Beddow, Calkins, Emmons, Herrig, Larzelere, Merrill, Saxe, Sweeney, Thorpe, Trout and Woldt. Futons are allowed in all halls.

Many students purchase carpet remnants for their residence hall room.  The Office of Residence Life has an agreement with College Carpets www.collegecarpets2u.com. If you are thinking of carpet, you might consider ordering one from College Carpets before August 5. College Carpets will have your order in your room ready to be unrolled when you arrive on campus. They have several colors and sizes available. 

COOL EQUIPMENT is the exclusive rental provider of MicroFridge multipliances to CMU residence hall students. A MicroFridge is a combination refrigerator, freezer and microwave. MicroFridge rentals will be delivered and picked up directly to your room. For more information please contact: cool-equipment.com.
