Central Michigan University (CMU) invites applications and nominations for its Founding Dean of the allopathic School of Medicine. A charter class of 100 students is anticipated in the fall of 2012. The CMU School of Medicine will offer a community-based academic program preparing exceptionally well-qualified physicians to meet the needs of mid- and northern-Michigan. We are seeking a dynamic leader and administrator who will play a critical role in shaping the vision of the School of Medicine and will become the catalyst for securing the resources needed to accomplish the school's aims of serving a population of two million underserved people.
Established in 1892, Central Michigan University is located in Mount Pleasant. This doctoral research university is the fourth largest institution in Michigan and among the 100 largest public universities nationally. CMU is a $380 million enterprise, offers more than 200 academic programs, including 12 doctoral programs, and has nationally recognized programs in entrepreneurship, journalism, music, audiology, teacher education, psychology, physician assistant, and physical therapy.
The University operates a network of CMU Learning Centers in more than 60 locations throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico. Programs are offered at the undergraduate, masters, specialist and doctoral levels, including non-degree certifications.
CMU's Division I athletics program is a member of the Mid-American Conference (MAC). CMU Public Broadcasting operates 10 television and seven radio stations with the largest geographic reach of any Public Broadcasting system in the country. CMU is also home to the headquarters of Special Olympics Michigan.
Trustees approved $22 million in funding for a 62,000-square-foot addition to the existing Health Professions Building. The board previously approved a total of $2 million for architectural and engineering services, for a total project cost of $24 million. The Health Professions Building wing will provide the space needed for the university to open and operate a medical school. Completion of the addition is scheduled for spring 2012 and is designed to meet Liaison Committee on Medical Education accreditation standards and for silver level LEED certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. Funding for the project will come from gifts, grants and university reserves.
