Honors Philanthropies

TOTAL RAISED BY FIRST-YEAR HONORS STUDENTS: $43,000

(This year we will top $50,000 in the year of the 50th anniversary)


Each academic year the first-year Honors students select a philanthropy project in which all members commit time and resources to meet the needs of the selected organization.

 

List of the past philanthropies:

  • 2010 Honors Students Raised $12,000+ for the Community Compassion Network Mobile Food Pantry in Isabella County
  • 2009 Honors Students Raised $11,000+ for the Isabella Community Soup Kitchen
  • 2008 Honors Students Raise Record $10,000 for the Isabella County American Red Cross Mobile Food Pantry
  • 2007 Honors Students Raise nearly $6,000 for Malaria Prevention in Africa;
  • 2006 Honors Students Raise $1,000 for the American Red Cross Local Food Pantry
  • 2005 Each Honors student completed 10 hours of community service on their own at a site of their choosing for a combined class total 3500 hours in the local Mt. Pleasant Community
  • 2004 Honors students participated in a variety of events raising over $3,000 and numerous in kind donations for agencies such as Toys for Tots, the American Red Cross Food Pantry, Family Independent Agency, Christmas Outreach, Family Independence Agency Foster Care Program, Women's Aid Shelter, Animal Shelter, Into the Light Cancer Walk, Neithercut Nature Retreat and the Commission on Aging.
  • 2003 Honors Students worked at a variety of sites serving local agencies such as Goodwill, Community Recreation, The Red Cross Food Pantry, TenderCare Nursing Home, Child and Family Enrichment Council.
  • 2002 Over 200 Honors students collect over 3500 can goods for the American Red Cross Mobile Food Pantry-this was more can goods than had ever been collected in one day for the Food Pantry; over 150 Honors students participated in the Chippewa River Clean Up Project.
  • 2001 Over 350 Honors students participated in a clean-up of the Chippewa River and Community Parks in Mt. Pleasant
