The Executive Vice President and Provost is the Chief Academic Officer of the University. The Executive Vice President and Provost is the second highest ranked administrator at the University after the President. This position coordinates the team of senior staff who are responsible for achieving the University’s established major goals identified by the President and the Board of Trustees.

The Executive Vice President and Provost plays a leadership role in Central Michigan University’s strategic planning, fostering the development and enhancement of high quality baccalaureate, master’s and doctoral-level programs through ongoing review and assessment, raising academic standards, and expanding research and creative endeavors across the University’s seven colleges (Business Administration; Communication and Fine Arts; Education and Human Services; Health Professions; Humanities and Social and Behavioral Sciences; Medicine; Science and Technology).

The Executive Vice President and Provost works with the deans and development team to identify new sources of revenue to support existing programs, as well as the creation of new programs that are in keeping with the mission of the University. The successful candidate must possess the vision necessary to lead a complex, major institution of higher education. The Executive Vice President and Provost must successfully motivate a university-wide team at all levels, to develop an understanding of core values at CMU, and to demonstrate appropriate responsiveness to the needs and concerns of students, faculty, and staff.

The Executive Vice President and Provost leads a multifunctional, integrated operation. As the Chief Academic Officer for the University reporting directly to the President, the position provides leadership in the planning, development, assessment, and implementation of all academic programs and many service areas.
