2013 Saxophone Day
Central Michigan University’s School of Music announces Saxophone Day 2013. Hosted by Professor of Saxophone John Nichol and the CMU Saxophone Studio, this biennial event takes place Sunday, March 24 in the School of Music on the campus of Central Michigan University. This year’s event features guest saxophonist Taimur Sullivan, artist/professor of saxophone at the North Carolina School of the Arts. Mr. Sullivan’s highly successful career includes performing as a soloist, chamber musician and member of the world famous PRISM Quartet. For his full bio, see http://www.taimursullivan.com/
Sunday morning begins with a Master Class at 9 a.m. by Mr. Sullivan in Staples Family Concert Hall. Following a break for lunch, the Michigan Saxophone Ensemble will rehearse in Staples Family Concert Hall at 12 p.m. with all attending saxophonists participating. Following the rehearsal and a break, Mr. Sullivan presents his solo recital on the Staples Family Concert Hall stage at 3 p.m.*
Following Mr. Sullivan’s recital, the day concludes with performances by the CMU Saxophone Ensemble at 4:30 p.m. and the Michigan Saxophone Ensemble at 5 p.m., both in Staples Family Concert Hall.
