Central Michigan University is proud
of its Teacher Education program and the unique field experiences that
are available for the development of future educators.
The Student Teaching experience is the final of three field
components in the teacher
education
program. Each education student will
be partnered with a PK-12 classroom teacher in a local
school for a ten week, thirty-classroom hour commitment.
The student teaching field experience requires a 16-week field
experience in a Pre-K through 12 th grade setting. This placement is
dependent on the type of teacher certification and endorsements each
individual teacher education student is pursuing.
Each prospective student teacher will be
assigned to one of the nine student teaching centers in Michigan, as
well as be assigned to a university coordinator. Students can also
elect to participate in one of the many global experiences available to
CMU students. These are excellent opportunities for student teachers to
experience teaching in a diverse setting.
CMU is an active participant in the annual
Michigan Association of Teacher Educators (MATE) Michigan Student
Teacher-of-the-Year program; and TEPD is pleased to note that CMU
student teachers have won the award in three of the last five years.
