Applying for Student Teaching

CMU's Northern Student Teaching Center (231-218-9678) looks forward to working with you as you prepare to begin your student teaching experience.

The student teaching field experience requires a 16-week field experience in a Pre-K through 12th grade setting. This placement is dependent on the type of teacher certification and endorsements each individual teacher education student is pursuing.

After attending the Student Teaching Application meeting and submitting a student teaching application each prospective student teacher will be assigned to one of the eight student teaching centers in Michigan, as well as be assigned to a university coordinator.

In addition to the typical student teaching field experiences, a student teacher may participate in one of four international student teaching experiences offered by the Department of Teacher Education and Professional Development. The international placements are 8-week programs. A student teacher would be assigned to a preK-12 district for eight weeks in Michigan and then complete eight weeks of student teaching in the international setting. These three sites are:

Central Michigan University is proud of its Teacher Education program and the unique field experiences that are available for the development of quality future teachers. CMU is an active participant in the annual MATE Michigan Student Teacher-of-the-Year program and TEPD is pleased to note that CMU student teachers have won the award in two of the last three years.
