ADMISSION CHECKLIST - POST BACCALAUREATE, CERTIFICATION ONLY

Use this checklist to track the completion of all admission requirements for the Teacher Education Program. It will be your responsibility to ensure that all requirements and deadlines have been met. Keep copies of all materials submitted. Whenever you contact the center, please make sure you indicate you are a post-baccalaureate, certification-only student.

ADMISSION REQUIREMEMTS:  APPLICATIONS
 
You will need to make an advising appointment (by phone) with the Post-Baccalaureate Academic Advisor before applying. Call the Post Baccalaureate  Clerk at 989-774-3309.
 
A. Sign, date and return the Elementary or Secondary Education “Post Baccalaureate Program/Course Requirements” outline, which will be mailed to you as part of the evaluation process.  This program lists the courses needed for the competencies, additional program courses, and the professional education courses.  Any majors and minors will be included in a packet. 
 
B.  Apply to Central Michigan University, College of Graduate Studies, as a Graduate Non-Degree Student, seeking Teacher Education, Certification Only (Grad Application fee of $35 and Orientation fee of $10 must be paid to Grad Studies). College of Graduate Studies or 989-774-GRAD. Official undergraduate transcripts from all accredited colleges or universities must be furnished to the College of Graduate Studies.
 
C.  Submit electronic Application for the Teacher Education Program.  Visit the main CSS web site for the application form https://ehsportal.cmich.edu/forms/css-admission.php. You will need your CMU Global ID and password to log in and fill out the online application.  Your Global ID is issued to you once you are accepted to Central Michigan University.  A $50 non-refundable one-time application fee will be charged to your student account when you submit your electronic application.
 
D.  Technical Standards.  Electronic form must be submitted online at
https://ehsportal.cmich.edu/forms/css-techstandards.php.  You will need your CMU Global ID and password to log in.  Read the two-page document and electronically “sign” whichever statement at the end that pertains to you by checking the appropriate box.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS: COURSEWORK, TESTS, GPA, EXPERIENCE and FORMS.   Besides submitting the above applications, you must fulfill the following admission items to become a candidate for admission to Teacher Education. NOTE: It is suggested you submit your application to the teacher education program early in the process in order to receive updated notices and avoid missing deadlines.
 
E.  Completion of EDU 107 – Introduction to Teaching, or equivalent, with a minimum grade of B” (3.00).
 
F.  Completion of English 101 (or one of its accepted substitutes) OR English 201, with a minimum grade of “B-”(2.70); and oral English and Mathematics competency with a minimum grade of “C” (2.00).
 
G.  Michigan Basic Skills Test (MBST #96). Passing results of the Mathematics, Reading and Writing portions of the MBST as required by the State of Michigan. You may apply online at www.mttc.nesinc.com Please note that a separate fee is required for MBST.
 
H.   A Minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.70 is required for admission. The GPA will be calculated on your cumulative Bachelor’s Degree GPA, or a minimum of the most recent 45 graded semester hours taken at regionally accredited institutions. The 45 semester hours counted for the GPA cannot be split within a semester, session or term.
 
I.   45-hour Pre-Professional Observation/Field Experience Hours. The student must complete and document 45 hours experiences in a K-12 classroom setting, with a State Certified Educator. The electronic form is available at Field Experience/Observation Hours Form.  The instructions are at  "Instruction Sheet Teacher Education Field Experience/Observation Hours Form".
