As students move through the teacher education program, certification and K-12 employment, it is important that candidates demonstrate professional attributes needed for success in the teaching profession. The Professional Education Faculty (PEF) and staff believe that there are specific dispositions that CMU education students must possess if they are to become exemplary educators. Dispositions are reflected in the commitments and virtues that influence behavior toward students, families, colleagues and communities and deeply affect student learning and development as well as the educator's own professional growth.

Professional dispositions address the pre-service professional educator's commitment to the students, the learning process and the profession. The Professional Education Faculty and staff expect candidates for a Bachelor of Science in Education to exhibit these professional dispositions.

CMU teacher education candidates will view the PEU instructional video on dispositions during the Teacher Education program and will be encouraged to consider and review this important information in coursework as well as each advising appointment.

If a teacher education candidate exhibits signs of consistently not meeting one or more of the dispositions listed, please follow the PEU dispositions process.If the concern is not resolved by following steps 1 and if needed, step 2, please continue the procedure by submitting the dispositions concern form to the Director of Professional Education in EHS 421.

Once a dispositions concern form is submitted to the Director of Professional Education, the concern will be addressed by the PEU Dispositions Concerns Committee.
