Christopher D. Ingersoll is the Dean of The Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow College of Health Professions at Central Michigan University.

Previously, he was the Joe H. Gieck Professor of Sports Medicine, chair of the Department of Human Services, and professor in the Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at the University of Virginia.

Ingersoll currently serves as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Athletic Training and previously served as president of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) Research and Education Foundation. His research has focused on the neurophysiological and neuromechanical consequences of injury, particularly relating to muscle activation, and the neurophysiological mechanisms of rehabilitation interventions. He has authored or coauthored over 100 peer-reviewed publications, 260 presentations at scientific meetings, and 65 invited presentations or symposia in the areas of Sports Medicine, Athletic Training and Neuroscience. He was the recipient of the NATA Research & Education Foundation William G. Clancy Medal for Distinguished Athletic Training Research in 2005 and the NATA Sayers “Bud” Miller Distinguished Educator award in 2009. He has been elected a fellow in the American College of Sports Medicine and the National Athletic Trainers’ Association.

He earned a B.S. in Sports Medicine from Marietta (OH) College, an M.A. in Athletic Training from Indiana State University, and a PhD in Biomechanics from the University of Toledo.

He and his wife, Mary, have three children: Kayla, Tanner, and Tom.
