Bio:

Nathan Weed received his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Minnesota in 1992. He joined the CMU faculty in 2001 after nine years on the clinical psychology faculty at the University of Mississippi. His chief teaching, research, and clinical interests are in the area of clinical psychological assessment. He directs a psychological assessment research laboratory and a specialty training clinic   devoted to psychological assessment. Dr. Weed is  Associate Editor of Psychological Assessment, published by the American Psychological Association, a Consulting Editor for Assessment, published by Sage, and for the Journal of Personality Assessment, published by Taylor & Francis.

Research Interests:

My research centers on problems in construction and validation of psychological assessments, particularly those involving the assessment of personality and psychopathology. Recent scale construction projects have included the development and validation of MMPI-2 scales used to: (1) screen for substance abuse problems, (2) identify symptoms associated with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, and (3) assess features of the Korean culture-bound syndrome of Hwa-Byung. Recent validation studies include examinations of: (1) the relative validity of commercially available computer-based test interpretations, (2) the utility of the MMPI-2 PSY-5 scales as measures of dispositional coping, and (3) the field reliability of clinical MMPI-2 interpretation. Many of my current projects apply a novel q-sort methodology to validate personality test inferences.
