"Journey Through the Jungle: A Fascinating Look at Life in the Rainforest" is on display through December 14 at CMU's Museum of Cultural and Natural History. The exhibit includes photos and displays of plants and animals that live in the rainforest, live critters and a display on rainforest conservation. The exhibit features a large children's section that includes a replica bat cave and tribal hut, passports for kids to earn stickers at each station they visit, and several hands-on activities.

Special Programs
Special groups of no more than 28 students can book the following activities either in addition to their Journey Through the Jungle tour or separate from the tour. Not all activities require the same about of time.
Grades K-2: The Great Kapok TreeStudents will learn that many animals in the rainforest are dependent upon the kapok tree as they listen to and interact with the story,
The Great Kapok Tree, by Lynn Cherry. Students will also learn about the problem of deforestation. This activity can also include a writing experience. This activity takes about 20 minutes without the writing experience.

Grades 3-4: Plant/Animal ClassificationStudents will experience classification as something that scientists do and will classify plants and animals individually and in small groups into several different categories. This activity takes about 30 minutes.

Grades 3-4: Rainforest Food Chain/Food WebStudents will learn how several animals in the rainforest are dependent upon the kapok tree and will form food chains and food webs as they listen to the story,

Grades 5-6: Rainforest Food Chain/Food WebThis is a much more complex activity than the one for grades 3-4. Students will simulate food chains and food webs, mutualistic relationships, and what happens in the tropical rainforest if a species is removed. This activity takes about 45 minutes.
