Biographical Sketch:

Daniel Griffin graduated magna cum laude, receiving a bachelor of science degree in biochemistry with honors from Rider University in Lawrenceville, N.J. His undergraduate research focused on amino acid biosynthesis. Griffin received a Ph.D. in plant biology with a minor in molecular, cellular, developmental biology and genetics from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, Minn. His graduate work focused on determining the location and nature of tubulin post-translational modifications using mass spectrometry. He was a post-doctoral fellow in the Department of Urologic Surgery at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. Griffin's research focused on efforts to develop and produce cancer vaccines.

During his graduate career, Griffin developed his teaching abilities through formal training and gained extensive experience as a teaching assistant. This training resulted in being selected by his students, peers and faculty to receive the award for "Outstanding Performance as a Teaching Assistant." After receiving his Ph.D., Griffin continued teaching at universities with an emphasis on developing pedagogical techniques to improve student learning. He also designed curriculum for programs like the Minnesota Future Doctors and developed clinical cases for student-centered, problem-based learning.

He joined the College of Medicine faculty in 2011, where he is involved in cancer research, curriculum development for the Foundational Sciences of Medicine course and serves as co-director of GI and Hem/Onc organ systems courses in Year 2 studies.
