Biographical Sketch:
Leaden Hickman is Course Director for Society and Community Medicine in the College of Medicine. Hickman's interests are primarily focused in the areas of cardiovascular epidemiology, clinical outcomes and health services research. He received both his Ph.D. and M.Sc. degrees in epidemiology and community medicine from the Wayne State University School of Medicine.
Recent research efforts have been directed in the areas of cardiology and cardiovascular disease, specifically mechanisms of atherosclerosis and atherosclerotic plaque characterization, sudden cardiac death, cardiac imaging, and treatment paradigms of acute coronary syndrome. Prior to his appointment at CMU, Hickman held faculty positions at Wayne State University, University of Michigan and Oakland University.

Industry Relationships:
Hickman has held several key senior corporate positions within the health care industry. Prior to his tenure with University of Michigan, he directed corporate research efforts at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan in the area of health economics. More recently, he directed Corporate Cardiovascular Outcomes Research for the William Beaumont Health System and the William Beaumont Health Research Institute. Hickman currently is a co-investigator in the Advanced Cardiovascular Imaging Consortium, ACIC, a CT Imaging Quality Improvement Initiative, sponsored by BCBM and funded through a grant from the American Heart Association.
