The Michigan Geographic Alliance is proud to be a partner in the Michigan Joint Social Studies Conference. It will be held at the John Lewis Student Community Center of Macomb Community College from November 2-3, 2012 and feature sessions from the Michigan Council of History Education, Michigan Center for Civic Education, Michigan Council for Economic Education, Michigan Geographic Alliance, and the Michigan Council for the Social Studies. The New MEECS
The Michigan Geographic Alliance, in partnership with the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, has used a grant from the Environmental Protection Agency to update five MEECS units and expand the resources to bring additional Great Lakes sustainability issues to Michigan teachers and students. Outdoor education has been incorporated into some of the lessons in each unit.

The premier showing of these units will be during the MSTA Pure Michigan Science Conference
from March 8-10, 2012 in Lansing. Materials are free to MSTA participants, but pre-registration (for both the conference and the sessions) is required.
More workshops will be scheduled for spring and summer 2012 for trainers and facilitators. Teacher workshops will follow in the summer and fall of 2012.
Family Geography Night Kit Updated!
New events have been added to our Family Geography Night Kit, including "Earth Cookie" and "Where in the World is Ronald McDonald?" The Michigan Geographic Alliance Family Geography Night Kit is a package of 'events' designed to engage children and their parents in an interesting and educational series of geographic activities. We give you everything you need to plan and prepare for an evening of family fun!
