Promoting a healthy university community through assistance, awareness and education.

"For the Health of it!" was implemented in February 1999 to improve and maintain the health and we​ll-being of the CMU community. The mission of this comprehensive wellness program is to create and support a culture of health and wellness that enhances the creativity, energy and productivity of our CMU workforce.

The CMU employee wellness program provides opportunities for faculty and staff to enhance their health and well-being throughout the year. Programs include on-site fitness facilities, Weight Watchers at Work, wellness screening, an annual health fair, CPR and First Aid classes, as well as many online resources and programming options.

Ca$h In on Wellness and Gain-Sharing Programs

Ca$h In on Wellness is the wellness incentive program offered to both on and off-campus staff and Fixed-Term faculty. Employees completing any or all of the 4 program components (Exercise, Healthcare, Health Risk Assessment and Wellness) can earn up to $335 in Healthy Choice awards which they can redeem for gift cards, gift certificates or merchandise.

Spouses and other eligible individuals (OEI) of CMU staff and Fixed-Term faculty who are covered under a CMU Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan medical plan are also eligible to complete the online Health Risk Assessment (HRA) and earn a $75 Healthy Choice award. Completion of the HRA will unlock free online coaching programs that can assist with healthy eating, improving sleep, managing stress and weight, stop smoking, managing back pain or chronic conditions and staying active.

In addition to the Ca$h In on Wellness incentive program, CMU has created a gain-sharing incentive that rewards employees collectively for impacting healthcare costs. By participating in healthy behaviors that maintain and enhance health and by being wise healthcare consumers, employees can help reduce the costs to the CMU medical and prescription drug plans and reap the rewards.
