Welcome to the Central Michigan University Executive Vice President/Provost Search Committee website. This is an exciting time for CMU as we conduct a national search for a successor to our current provost, Dr. E. Gary Shapiro. Dr. Shapiro has announced his intention to step down as provost on July 31, 2013, to return to the classroom.

CMU's next provost will be charged with continuing the tremendous momentum of one of the country’s 100 largest universities and the fourth largest in Michigan. With nearly 28,000 students and 220,000 alumni located around the world, CMU is seeking an individual who can inspire faculty and staff to build on CMU’s significant success in enhancing academic achievement and professional excellence while continuously molding the university to meet the needs of students today and for decades to come.

CMU's search committee, in conjunction with the national executive search firm of Parker Executive Search, encourages the campus community to actively engage in the recruitment of qualified candidates and the overall search process. This website will serve as a clearinghouse for information and provide opportunities for you to be involved.

As a growing institution with global reach, CMU seeks an experienced and visionary leader to fulfill the university’s emerging potential in exciting areas, including the development of the nation’s 137th medical college, along with transformational advances in many other academic areas.

The search committee invites letters of nomination or expressions of interest for the executive vice president/provost position to be submitted to:
