College of Education and Human Services offers sneak peak to potential students

Exhibits, tours, presentations, and panels featured

Over 600 participants attended the second annual EHS Day at Central Michigan University's College of Education and Human services.

"This event is a great investment in our future enrollment," said Interim Dean Kathy Koch. "The time and effort spent by everyone involved will certainly pay off long term."

Prospective students, parents and friends spent one-on-one time with faculty and staff while visiting exhibits, panel presentations, demonstrations and taking a building tour. Highlights included the new EHS Building's modern student-centered learning environment and the Leadership in Energy Environmental Design (LEED) features. Students interested in programs in Human Environmental Studies participated in presentations in Wightman Hall.

The large-group presentation included chairs and faculty from Teacher Education and Professional Development, Human Environmental Studies, Recreation/Parks/Leisure Services, as well as Special Education, followed by overviews of the areas of study.

Exhibits, tours, presentations, and panels features college to possible incoming freshmen

Signs up and down East Campus Drive directed nearly 600 prospective students and their families to the first-ever Education and Human Services College Day on the campus of Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant on July 24.  EHS College Day was an ideal opportunity for high school juniors and seniors to discover exactly what is in store for them if they study education or human services at CMU. 

The program kicked off in the auditorium of the newly-constructed EHS Building with a warm welcome by the interim dean of the college, Kathy Koch.  Proudly wearing the College Day shirt that said Serve On, she emphasized the commitment to instruction, learning, and service.  Program chairs and faculty from Teacher Education and Professional Development, Human Environmental Studies, Recreation/Parks/Leisure Services, and Special Education, followed with exciting overviews of their areas of study.

Prospective students spent one-on-one time with faculty, staff and current students at the exhibits and panels that featured initiatives happening in the college.   Tours of the EHS building highlighted the modern student-learning environment and the Leadership in Energy Environmental Design (LEED) features of the building.

"We're already thinking about EHS College Day 2010," said Ray Francis, professor and interim associate dean.  "This event was a huge success and we're passionate about doing it all over again."
