Greg R. Thayer

LTC Greg Thayer was commissioned through ROTC in 1995. After completing the Quartermaster Officer Basic Course, his first duty assignment was with the 528th Special Operations Support Battalion (Airborne), United States Army Special Operations Command, Fort Bragg, North Carolina where he served as a Fuel & Ammo Platoon Leader, and Forward Support Company Executive Officer.

In 1999, He was assigned to the 1st Brigade, 1st Armored Division (Friedberg, Germany) where he served in the 501st Forward Support Battalion as the Operations Officer, Forward Support Company Commander, 284th BSB Area Support Team Commander, and as the Brigade Logistics Officer during Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF-I) in 2003.

LTC Thayer later deployed in support of OIF-3, as an Iraqi Army Advisor under the Multi-National Security Transition Command-Iraq where he served with the Iraqi Army's 2nd Motorized Transportation Regiment. After attending the Command and General Staff College, LTC Thayer was stationed in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia (2008-2009) where he served as the Senior Logistics Advisor to the Saudi Arabian National Guard. Upon returning from Saudi Arabia in 2009, he served as the Battalion Executive Officer of the 1st Battalion, 383rd Regiment, 166th Aviation Brigade.

Prior to his commission, LTC Thayer served honorably as an Infantryman from 1985 to 1989, serving in the 2nd and 24th Infantry Divisions. Highlights of his enlisted service include a tour of duty in Korea's sensitive demilitarized zone mission, and special duty with the Army Marksmanship Unit, competing in the 18th Airborne Corps rifle, pistol, and light machinegun championships. Upon his discharge from active duty and before he began his ROTC training he was a Police Officer for the City of Savannah, Georgia (1989-1990).

LTC Thayer's education includes double majors in Geography (B.S.) and Criminal Justice (B.A.), from Western Michigan University and a Master of Health Sciences in Emergency Response and Disaster Management from Touro University. LTC Thayer is also a graduate of the United States Army Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, KS. His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (3rd OLC), Joint Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal (2nd OLC), Army Achievement Medal (4th OLC), Overseas Service Ribbon with numeral 4, Army Good Conduct Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Combat Action Badge, Expert Infantryman's Badge, Senior Parachutist's Badge, Pathfinder Badge, Parachute Rigger Badge, as well as parachutists wings from Thailand and Australia. 

Darrell Bailey

MSG Darrell Bailey, comes to Central Michigan University ROTC from the 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, NY. He served as the Brigade Fires and Effects Control Cell Operations NCO for the 1st Brigade Combat Team who recently returned in March 2011 from conducting operations in Northern Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. MSG Bailey has over 24 years of military service, he entered the army in Memphis, Tennessee and attended Basic and advanced training at Ft Sill OK. MSG Bailey's previous duty stations include Ft Bliss, TX, Camp Casey, Korea, Seattle Recruiting Battalion, Seattle, Washington, Ft Sill, Oklahoma, Camp Shelby, Mississippi and Ft Drum, New York. He has also participated in support of Operation Enduring Freedom VII, IX, and XII. He has served in a wide variety of duty positions such as Cannoneer, Gunner, Ammo Team Chief, Howitzer Section Chief, Army Recruiter, Gunnery Sergeant, Chief of Firing Battery, Observer Controller Trainer, Battalion Master Gunner, Operations NCO, Battalion Intelligence Officer/NCOIC, Battalion Operations NCOIC, Firing Battery First Sergeant, Headquarters Battery First Sergeant, and Brigade Fires and Effects Control Cell NCOIC.  MSG Bailey resides in the Mount Pleasant area with his family.

 

Mary Brewer

Mary was born in Roslyn, Pennsylvania. When she was 13 she moved with her family to Parchment, Michigan, and graduated from Parchment High School in 1983.

Mary is married to SFC (Retired) Michael R. Brewer. They have two children, Andrew and Sara.
As a career military spouse, Mary has traveled to many different places and served in a number of different positions. Her civil service career began in 1989 as a Budget Assistant for the Department of Engineering and Housing, New York Area Command Budget Office, Ft. Dix, NJ until June of 1990. She then received a promotion and transferred to the Walson Army Community Hospital and served as a Budget Clerk until May 1991. She then moved to Hawaii in June 1991 and worked as a Secretary for the Department of Pediatrics, Tripler Army Medical Center, working in both the Administration office as well as the Department of Neonatology. She then transferred to Schofield Barracks and worked as a secretary for Veterinary Services until June 1995. After moving to Mt. Pleasant, MI in the summer of 1995, she began the duties of Human Resource Technician at Central Michigan University Army ROTC Program.

She is a graduate of Central Michigan University with a degree in Entrepreneurship and a minor in Business Administration. Her hobbies include maintaining a small hobby farm with her husband and making various types of crafts.

Her civil services awards include a Commanders Award for Civil Service, Achievement Medal for Civilian Service, Special Act/Service Awards, various on-the-spot cash awards, and quality step increases.

SSG Joseph Garvie 

KokJoseph Kok

Mr. Joseph Kok is the Recruiting Operations Officer for the Chippewa Battalion.  He has been in the Army Reserve since 2006.  As an enlisted Soldier, he was a Motor Transport Specialist, and as an Officer he has been a Platoon Leader, Detachment Commander, Company XO/Operations Officer and is currently serving as Battalion S-4 in a Civil Affairs Battalion.  He attended Basic Combat Training at Fort Jackson, SC; Advanced Individual Training for Motor Transport Specialist at Fort Bliss, TX; and Transportation Basic Officer Leadership Course at Fort Lee, VA.  He graduated from CMU with a Bachelor of Science majoring in History and minoring in Military Science and Leadership.  So far in his career he has received the Army Achievement Medal (Second Award), The Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal (Second Award), the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, among others.  He and his wife Jessica have a puppy named Molly!

Kim M. Bailey

Kim Bailey began working in the Military Science Department Office on August 1, 2007. She has worked in various offices at CMU since 1989. She is married to Bruce and they have three children and four grandchildren. Kim enjoys, crafts, traveling, spending time with family and being at their cottage at Higgins Lake.

Tierney A. Williams

Tierney A. Williams entered the Army in 1995. She has held the positions of Squad Leader 398th CM (1997), Platoon Leader 655th TC (2005), BN S1 Officer 342nd QM (2005) and Executive Officer 3-398th BCT (2007). She has a Bachelors Degree in Psychology and Sociology. She has a Graduate degree in Educational Leadership and has a Certification in Substance Abuse. Here at Central Michigan University ROTC Dept, Williams is responsible for enhancing the soldier readiness of Cadets by instructing, recruiting, training, motivating, retaining, evaluating and accessing quality First Lieutenants. She is also our S1 Officer, responsible for personnel issues of Cadre members. Williams resides in Mt. Pleasant with her family.

Larry Wilcox

Larry Wilcox is the Supply Technician for Central Michigan University’s Army ROTC Program. He assumed this position on 2 MAY 2005. He graduated from the University of Southern Maine in 1991 with a Bachelor of Science degree in industrial Technology. He retired from active duty after 23 years in the U.S. Air Force where he worked in Aircraft Maintenance. He retired as a First Sergeant (E-8) on 1 JUN 1997. His duty assignments include Texas, England, Michigan, Maine, and Montana. He is a veteran of Desert Shield/Storm, Operation Southern Watch, and several tours of duty in the Middle East.

Justin Adcock 

Captain Justin T. Adcock is a native of Hiawatha, Kansas.  He graduated from the Kansas State University with a Bachelors of Science degree in History in 2003 and received his commission through the Officer Candidate School (OCS).  He was branched into the Adjutant Generals Corps.  CPT Adcock currently serves as the Assistant Professor of Military Science at Central Michigan University ROTC.  His prior assignment was as the Brigade Adjutant for 1 Sustainment Brigade at Fort Riley, Kansas.  His other previous assignments were as the Human Resources Officer (S1) for the STB, 1 Sustainment Brigade and for the 325 AIR, 2 Brigade Combat Team, 82 Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.  CPT Adcock deployed with each of these units in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation New Dawn. CPT Adcock’s military education and training include: Adjutant Generals Officers Basic Course, Combat Life Savers, and Adjutant Generals Captains Career Course. His awards and decorations include:  the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal with oak leaf cluster, the Army Achievement Medal with oak leaf cluster, the National Defense Service Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal with two services stars, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary and Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, and the Overseas Service Ribbon with numeral two. CPT Adcock is married to the former Emily Grier, and they are the proud parents of two children Tre and Kegen.

 

Joe Harvey

SFC Joe K. Harvey Jr., is from Flint Michigan. His current position in CMU’s ROTC Battalion is Training NCO, MSI instructor. He has a combine service of Active Duty and Army Reserve of 25 years. He graduated from military schools: WLC, ALC, SLC, Drill Sergeant School, ITC, Javelin Gunner course, Combat Medic course, and Infantry Reclass course. He has received numerous awards including: Bronze Star Medal, 7 Army Commendation Medals, 8 Army achievement medals, Combat Medic Badge and Drill Sergeant Identification Badge. He has served with 1 Cavalry Division and 2 Infantry Division as a Combat Medic. He mobilized with the 84 Infantry Division as an Infantry Drill Sergeant to Fort Benning Georgia. He has served with the 2 and 3 Infantry Divisions as an Infantry Platoon Sergeant in both Stryker Combat Vehicles and Bradley Fighting Vehicles. He is married to Jennine R. Harvey an Army Reserve Soldier assigned to the 95 Division in Waterford Michigan.
