For decades, funding has been dropped from the humanities in public schools in exchange for STEM disciplines. Some would say that human interaction has become more limited in face-to-face contexts in exchange for the purging of self-announcing behavior online. As such, human behavior is changing and so has the discourse in humanities shown by movement, mobility, and migration. We wonder: what is the future of English language and literature, and how can the humanities adapt to this changing movement?
Conference Costs
While registration costs will be collected at the door in the form of cash or checks made payable to CMU Sigma Tau Delta,
we do ask that you pre-register so we can keep you informed about conference updates.
Conference fees include admission to all panels and a continental breakfast as well as an informal pizza/sub lunch.

CMU's Sigma Tau Delta chapter, in conjunction with the Department of English invite undergraduate and graduate students to submit abstract proposals for conference papers on the topics of
Movement, Mobility, and Migration. The conference will take place Friday, April 26, 2013 in Bovee University Center at CMU. Submissions may be directly related to this topic within language and literature, but the theme is open to interpretation including interdisciplinary studies.
The conference will start with a roundtable discussion about the future of English in the humanities. Featured panelists include: Dr. Nicole Sparling, Dr. Nathanial Smith, Professor Robert Fanning, Dr. Joseph Sommers, and Dr. Elizabeth Brockman. These faculty members come from diverse fields, approaches, and methodologies to teaching English language and literature.
Then, throughout the rest of the day, panels of undergraduate and graduate student presenters will share papers and lead discussions about these themes.

While the theme of the roundtable discussion is the future of English Studies, submissions are welcomed relating to the themes of movement, mobility, and migration in literature.
