How to apply to Central Michigan University College of Medicine (CMU-CMED)?
CMU-CMED uses AMCAS (American Medical
College Application Service) for the initial application process. All
candidates must register and apply at www.aamc.org/students/applying/amcas
What is the application deadline?
The application deadline for submitting the AMCAS application is December 15.
Do you require a secondary application? Is there an additional fee?
Select applicants will be invited to submit a secondary
application. The non-refundable secondary application fee is $100. If students receive a fee waiver from AMCAS, CMED will also waive its application fee.
How many letters of recommendation are required and who should
write them?
Three letters of recommendation - each author (who is known through a
professional relationship) must have firsthand knowledge of the candidate's qualifications, skills, attributes, and values (direct observation). Authors must be professionals whose background enables him/her to determine the applicant's qualifications.
If students apply from a university that provides a composite letter from a
premedical program, the composite letter will be accepted.
Where do I send my letters of recommendation?
All letters of recommendation should be submitted through the AMCAS Letters of Evaluation/Recommendation Service, on the AMCAS website.
How will I know if I will be interviewed for admission?
Completed applications will be considered for interview eligibility on a
rolling basis. If, after full review of your application you are selected for
interview, you will be contacted via email with further information regarding
the interview process.
Will International candidates be considered?
Applicants must be U.S. citizens, Canadian citizens or permanent residents of
the United States. Non-Canadian international applicants will be considered if
they can document residence in the state of Michigan for at least one year.
Is a bachelor's degree required for admission?
Yes, a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution must be completed
prior to enrollment.
What prerequisite courses are required/recommended?
Required:
- Two semesters of Organic Chemistry, with lab, OR one semester of Organic Chemistry and one semester of Biochemistry (with lab)
- Two semesters of Biology with lab

- Inorganic Chemistry
- Biochemistry
- Behavioral sciences (Psychology, Sociology, Anthropology)
- Medical Humanities
- Physics
Does the CMED accept online and/or Community College courses for
prerequisites?
This will be
determined on a case-by-case basis.
Does CMED accept transfer students?
No.
What is the latest MCAT score you will accept for the admission
cycle?
The last test score to be accepted for each admission cycle is September. Only
MCAT scores received within the three years prior to applying will be accepted.
What MCAT score does CMED consider if I have taken the MCAT more
than once?
CMED will consider your highest MCAT score.
What type of grading system will the CMED
use?
Years 1 and 2 will be graded as Credit/No Credit. Years 3 and 4 will be
Credit/No Credit, Credit with Honors.
How many students do you plan to enroll?
Enrollment in the inaugural (2013-14) and 2014-15 classes are
limited to 60 students. The class size will be 100 thereafter.
Is preference given to in-state applicants?
All eligible U.S. and Canadian applications will be considered. CMED intends to have 80% in-state enrollment and 20% out-of-state enrollment.

In-State - $33,536
Out-of-State - $67,072
I am a current applicant and already submitted my AMCAS application. Can I meet with an Admissions staff member to discuss my application?
No. Once you have begun the application process, our admissions staff cannot meet with you to discuss your application. However, you may email our office if you have any questions about the CMED admissions process that are not answered within our site. Please be aware that we consider you to have begun the application process at the time you initiate your AMCAS application. If you are applying for the current application cycle, our admissions officers will not discuss your application or your application decision.
