Part of being professional is being an active participant in
activities with others in your field. In the marketing area we believe
this is important even when you are still in school. There are several
student organizations our students are actively involved with.
American Advertising Federation (Ad Club)
members of Ad Club generally aspire to an advertising career. This
group has speakers, but much of its efforts are on an intercollegiate
competition sponsored each year by a national marketer. In this
competition students prepare a campaign and present it to a panel of
advertising professionals in Chicago.
American Marketing Association
AMA chapter at Central is the largest of the student organizations and
the broadest in scope. Its members generally have a marketing career as
their ultimate goal even though the specific career goals of each member
may be very different. The AMA is a chapter of the largest and most
prestigious of all the marketing organizations in the United States. Its
activities include guest speakers, field trips, and service projects.
Hospitality Services Association
organization is designed to support those interested in the
hospitality, tourism and recreational fields. This is achieved through
involvement with guest speakers and tours of facilities. This
organization is strongly recommended if your studies or interests are
within the hospitality and related industries.
International Food Service Executives Association
offers a unique opportunity to experience all the diverse aspects of
the hospitality and food services industry. IFSEA members hear guest
speakers, visit professional kitchen facilities and learn about new
foods, service and management. Good food, good times, education,
participation and networking are all important parts of IFSEA.
Logistics Management Council Honor Society
focuses on the activities involved in the physical distribution of
products such as transportation and storage. The group invites speakers
and conducts field trips. Each year members participate in at least one
consulting project. As part of the project, they work on an actual
distribution problem faced by a business organization.
Pi Sigma Epsilon
Sigma Epsilon has over 50 chapters nationwide, and the CMU chapter has
the historical distinction of being the first in the state of Michigan.
Pi Sigma Epsilon is the only national coeducational fraternity that
specializes in the development of professional sales and sales
management students. The organization supports students that are
interested in the field of professional sales through national and
regional sales competitions, sales focused professional mentoring and
career fairs, guest speakers, and sales oriented service projects.
