Standardized statements for CMU job advertisements have been approved by the president in
order to ensure uniformity and accuracy in describing the university. The only required wording is that which is underlined below. Offices and departments are asked to
use facts from the following statements:
The following is suggested text for all advertisements for senior officer and department
chairs:
Central Michigan University seeks a ____(job title)____.
Established in 1892, Central Michigan University has
an enrollment of
27,000 students, including approximately 20,000 students on the
university's main campus. Classified by the Carnegie Foundation as a
doctoral research university, CMU is
recognized for strong undergraduate education and a range of focused graduate and research programs. CMU is a student-focused university with opportunities for leadership,
internships, and off-campus volunteer programs. CMU competes at the
NCAA Division I-A Football Bowl Subdivision level in athletics and is located in Mount Pleasant, an expanding mid-Michigan community of approximately
25,000 permanent residents. A recently developed tourist destination point, Mount Pleasant has retained its small-town flavor while embracing a wide variety of special
interest groups and outdoor recreation opportunities.
The following abbreviated statement is suggested to be used for faculty and professional
and administrative (level 4 and above) searches:
Central Michigan University seeks a/an (job title) to
join an energetic team.
Established in 1892, Central Michigan University has an
enrollment of 27,000 students, including approximately
20,000 students on the university's main campus.
Classified by the Carnegie Foundation as a doctoral
research university, CMU is recognized for strong
undergraduate education and a range of focused graduate
and research programs.
Any additional information in the advertisement must be taken from the text of the approved
senior officer/department chair posting.
As previously stated, because of the university's commitment to diversity and affirmative
action, a phrase similar to "demonstrated commitment to diversity" or "philosophical statement for diversity" suggested for every job posting.
In addition, the website address listed in the Affirmative Action statement has changed.
