Mentoring Program
The Pathways mentoring program helps enhance the experience of Pathways
students as they pursue academic, professional, and personal success. Studies
show that students who have a mentor are able to increase their self-esteem and
confidence, as well as enhancing their professional development and school-life
balance.
The program also serves to benefit mentors as well. Peer,
graduate student, and faculty and staff mentors have reported a satisfaction of
guiding and helping students to reach academic success. Through
mentoring, Pathways mentors are not only able to teach but also learn valuable
information themselves.
Expectations for mentors are to take part in conversations
and facilitate discussions that help mentees develop their leadership skills,
professionalism, and their academic savvy.
The objectives of Pathways mentoring program are to:
- provide
leadership development
- professional
guidance
- academic
guidance for Pathways student

Pathways FYE 101
The First Year Experience program has teamed with Pathways to provide FYE 101P,
a course that helps students adjust academically, socially and emotionally to
campus life and the rigor of courses at the University. Research shows that
students who participate in FYE are often more involved and more successful throughout
their college experience than those who do not participate. The Pathways
section of FYE 101 aims to meet the unique needs of first generation and/or
Pell grant eligible students.
