Wilkes joined CMU in 1992 as the university controller.
In October 2005, he became interim associate vice president of financial services and reporting and controller, an appointment that became permanent in October 2006.
Wilkes served as payroll manager, student accounts manager and assistant manager of accounting at Michigan State University and worked as a staff auditor at BDO Seidman, before coming to CMU.
Wilkes earned a bachelors degree from Michigan State University and is a certified public accountant.
