Dr. Eric L. Buschlen is an Assistant Professor in Recreation, Parks & Leisure Services. He received his doctorate from CMU and began teaching in 2006.
He has integrated a superb community based, service-learning component into his classes. He is being awarded the 2011-2012 Lorrie Ryan Memorial Excellence in Teaching Award.
One of his peers stated: “What is most remarkable is the number of students in the program and his dedication to make sure that each and every student has an outstanding applied experience.”
He provides ongoing community service to local Isabella County families, CMU, local non-profits, and to the local elementary schools by participating in the United Way Adapt-A-Family Holiday Program and the Adopt-A-Classroom program.Eric has helped develop the Leadership Studies program into one of the largest CMU academic minor.
Since 2007, LDR capstone students have logged 64,000 documented hours of service to local, national, and international agencies.This award is given each year to one CMU faculty member who inspires students through an exemplary commitment to community service and demonstrates a profound mentorship and respect for others.
