SUMMARY

The intern will work with team members in various capacities that may include writing projects such as articles for newsletters, press releases and website; assist with customer database and direct mail campaigns. The intern will be exposed to many aspects of the organization and participate at various events and programs.The intern will also carry out additional duties as assigned by the department manager.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Research and write articles for newsletters, publications, website or other communication vehicles.

- Assists media relations/public relations manager in developing press releases and working with media on various news stories.

- Participates in planning, organizing and implementation of community events and programs that promote the organization and services.  Some nights and weekends may apply.

- Helps document marketing efforts, media coverage and track success of events.

- Provides administrative support to marketing department to include but not limited to meeting coordination, telephone back up support and other duties as required.

- Communicates effectively with supervisor and other marketing staff in a courteous and respectful manner.

QUALIFICATIONS

Should be a college junior or senior in good academic standing. Interest in pursuing a career in marketing, communications, public relations or other related field a plus. Good verbal and written communication skills required. Must have good organizational skills. Experience organizing events a plus. Because of interaction with various internal and external departments, position requires someone who will maintain a professional working relationship with all members of the department and other departments within the system, serving as a courteous and responsive resource for information. 

COMPENSATION

SCHOOL OF MUSIC SEEKS PR INTERN

- Part-time, paid internship; 10 hours per week, to be arranged.

- This position is a qualified internship for IPR 555 (300 hours).

- Candidates must be available to start on our about August 12th, 2013.  Preference will be given to those who can continue through May, 2014.

- Familiarity with music terminology preferred, but not required. 

DUTIES:

- Helps create, manage and package news and event information to multiple print, electronic, and on-line outlets. This includes on-line events management on the SOM website and the CMU Events Calendar.

- Designs and assists in placement of advertising for the school, using InDesign and Photoshop software. Will often work independently and on deadline.

- Will be expected to help design and edit special publications (i.e. high profile programs, newsletters, posters, and so forth); competence in manipulating artwork, photos, and CMU logos is essential.  MUST have completed JRN 302

- Is the on-line editor for the School of Music Facebook page, and will track and be responsible for all social media related activities for the SOM. 

- Must be able to write adequately at a first draft level.  Finished press-release quality work expected by completion of internship.  

- This position is also part of the over-all Music School office support structure, assisting with other projects as needed.   Maintaining FileMaker Pro databases and working with Excel is also expected.  Experience with FileMaker is not required, but willingness to learn is essential.

ADVERTISING AND PUBLIC RELATIONS INTERNSHIP

Description

This position requires knowledge and application of various creative applications and publishing tools. Applicant will be called upon to assist owner with positioning his law practice in the immediate surrounding Mid-Michigan area. In addition, the intern will contribute and assist with composition of a monthly newsletter.  Applicant must be a good communicator, willing to speak in public, and possess good writing skills.

WOODLAND HOSPICE SEEKS PR INTERN

Woodland Hospice is a non-profit organization that provides end of life care to people in the central Michigan region.The care is provided in their homes, hospital, nursing home, assisted living and hospice house. We have served the area since 1984.

Woodland Hospice is seeking individuals with a positive attitude and lots of energy who would like to work in a compassionate, positive, and fun environment.

Duties/Responsibilities: Assist with press releases, planning events, writing publicity flyers, quarterly newsletters, work on fundraisers, design pamphlets, help with organization’s public image, etc. Work with Marketing Coordinator to increase referrals to Hospice. Make community presentations, seek out and attend organizations community events.

Supervision/critiques the intern will receive: Intern will receive direction from supervisor on expectations and tasks to be accomplished on a daily basis. The intern will be responsible to keep the supervisor current on his/her activities. Intern will be expected to fill out daily time sheets.

ZIIBIWING CENTER SEEKS WEB/COPY INTERN

Position serves as the Intern to the Cultural Arts Specialist and the Sales & Events Coordinator for the Ziibiwing Center (ZC). The Website & Copy Write Intern position will be responsible for writing clear, concise, informative, and persuasive copy for advertising materials including website, direct mail, promotional materials, and special projects as assigned. This position requires strong writing and editing skills, the ability to communicate in both a verbal and non-verbal manner, and a self-motivated individual that readily accepts new
challenges with a positive attitude.


Eligibility for the Website & Copy Write Internship includes the college student being a signed major, having a C or better in all classes in the program, junior/senior standing (the completion of 56 credit hours) and having the approval of the Internship Coordinator.  The Website & Copy Write Internship is a non-paid position. All candidates will be interviewed. Only one student per semester will receive the internship.


The interns schedule will be determined by the number of credit hours (3 or 6 credit hours) they wish to receive and the number of weeks they are available to work. MIDLAND TOMORROW SEEKS MARKETING INTERN
Midland Tomorrow is seeking an intern to help us with various communications tasks. This is a great opportunity to learn about internal and external marketing communications for a nonprofit while getting real-world experience in a professional setting and building your portfolio.
 
What Is Midland Tomorrow?
Midland Tomorrow is the private, nonprofit economic development organization serving the County of Midland, Michigan and all the municipalities in it. We work primarily with manufacturing and technology businesses to do two key things:
 
1)      Help our local businesses, from startup companies and second-stage businesses to major corporations, expand their operations and create local jobs.
2)      Research and attract new manufacturers that fit our local, existing industrial base.
 
Midland Tomorrow works closely with local companies, and we are recipients of confidential company information. The intern will be expected to maintain that confidentiality and to assume that any information about local businesses is confidential unless informed otherwise.
 
Marketing Communications for Midland Tomorrow
Marketing communications is a fast-paced field. The best fit for this position is someone who is flexible − able to handle changing project requirements, self-directed and able to prioritize projects. He or she should also be comfortable asking for assistance when needed and taking direction as well as articulating his/her thoughts and ideas. Midland Tomorrow wants fresh thinking and communication that connects with and inspires the audience.
 
What Will the Intern Do?
Intern duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:
Communications
- Work directly with the director of marketing to write messaging and/or design media that increases Midland Tomorrow’s brand awareness
- Create engaging, persuasive messaging for both Midland Tomorrow and external clients
- Write Midland Tomorrow’s communications and collateral
- Understand the target audience and what moves them to buy, click or call
- Use marketing analytics and research as a base for engaging, motivational copy
- Work directly with vendors
- Work directly with clients
- Update Midland Tomorrow’s social media accounts (Facebook and Twitter) as needed
- Update content on Midland Tomorrow’s website as directed
- Bring creative, fresh, engaging ideas to projects and tasks that enhance and promote Midland Tomorrow’s brand identity
 
Skills
- Strong writing skills – copywriting or journalism experience a plus
- Strong proofreading skills – excellent handle on correct grammar, punctuation, etc.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills – able to work with executive level clients, take complex, abstract and foreign concepts, understand them quickly, and write engaging, motivating messaging for a target audience
 
Software
The intern will need to be comfortable working with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), as well as standard Internet and email applications. HOPE NETWORK SEEKS MARKETING INTERN
Job Description: Hope Network, located in the Cascade area of Grand Rapids, is looking for a Marketing Intern to support online and print communications of the organization. Hope Network is a non-profit Christian organization founded in 1963 offering the treatment of brain and spinal cord injuries, mental illness, and developmental disabilities. They provide specialized transportation and residential services, as well as job training and placement, and conducts applied research. GOOGLE JOURNALISM FELLOWSHIPS - 2013

In an effort to help develop the next crop of reporters working to keep the world informed, educated and entertained, we have created the Google Journalism Fellowship. As a company dedicated to making the world’s information easily accessible, Google recognizes that behind many blue links is a journalist and that quality journalism is a key ingredient of a vibrant and functioning society.

The program is aimed at undergraduate, graduate and journalism students interested in using technology to tell stories in new and dynamic ways. The Fellows will get the opportunity to spend the summer contributing to a variety of organizations -- from those that are steeped in investigative journalism to those working for press freedom around the world and to those that are helping the industry figure out its future in the digital age.

There will be a focus on data driven journalism, online free expression and rethinking the business of journalism. The 10-week long Fellowship will open with a week at the Knight Foundation and end with a week at Google, split between Google News and YouTube.

Participating organizations are based in Berkeley, CA, Columbia, MO, Cambridge, MA, St. Petersburg/Miami, FL, New York, NY and Washington, DC.
They include the Center for Investigative Reporting, the Committee to Protect Journalists, Investigative Reporters & Editors, the Knight Foundation, Pew Research Center's Project for Excellence in Journalism, Poynter, Nieman Journalism Lab and ProPublica.

Fellows will be assigned a lead mentor at their host organizations, but will have the opportunity to work with several senior staff members over the course of the summer.
