Current position: Director of Executive Communications, University of Michigan. Primary duties: all speech writing for university President Mary Sue Coleman.

Awards, honors: 2012, two Cicero awards for speech writing, sponsored by Vital Speeches of the Day. Honored as the 2012 Distinguished Alumna of the Year, CMU Department of Journalism.

Brad Flory, class of 1980. Major in Journalism, News Editorial. CM Life alumnus.
Current position: Retired, May 2012, but still writes a column.
Work history: Reporter, Jackson Citizen Patriot/MLive Media Group, Jackson. Joined the staff of the Citizen Patriot in Jackson in 1985 as a reporter covering nearly all aspects of government; has written a thrice-weekly column for the last 10+ years.
Awards, honors: Numerous writing awards from the Michigan Press Association and the Associated Press.
Other: Through his “Brad’s Lunch Bunch” column starting in 2008, has raised more than $250,000 to help feed the hungry in various food pantries in Jackson County. |

Current position: Executive Editor, Autoweek, Crain Communications, Detroit.
Work history: Photographer, Tuscola County Advertiser; photographer, Associated Press, Detroit Bureau; freelance work for Sports Illustrated, Car and Driver, and Automobile magazines; photo editor, Observer & Eccentric Newspapers; photographer, assistant managing editor, editor in chief, The Daily Telegram in Adrian; managing editor, Autoweek in 2000, named executive editor in 2009.
Other: Published the book, “Postcards from Detroit, Remembering Formula One in the Motor City.” Mentored many young journalists, brings in CMU interns for Autoweek, makes frequent visits back to CMU to discuss careers in Journalism. |

James A. “Jim” Vruggink, class of 1970. Major in Journalism, News Editorial, CM Life alumnus.
Current position: Trademark licensing manager, Purdue University.
Work history: Sports reporter, The Ypsilanti Press; assistant sports information director, University of Michigan; sports information director, Northwestern University; sports information director, Purdue University.
Other: Inducted into College Sports Information Directors of America Hall of Fame, 2004; helped establish the Northwestern Indiana Chapter of the National Football Foundation, was honored for that work earning the Midwest Region Leadership Award; voting member of the Harris College Football poll; executive board member, Gale Sayers Center in Chicago; faculty adviser, Sigma Chi Fraternity House Corporation Board, Purdue campus. |
