Kathy Wheeler holds a Master of Music in Music Education from Central Michigan University, as well as a Bachelor of Music Education with a concentration in Choral Conducting from CMU. Mrs. Wheeler is beginning her second year at the School of Music. Her previous teaching experience includes two years as a Graduate Assistant in the Music Education department of CMU’s School of Music. Opportunities at Central also included conducting the Festival Chorus, Concert Choir, and the CMU Orchestra, in preparation for the Festival Chorus and choral concerts. She studied conducting under Dr. Nina Nash-Robertson. Choral performance experience includes several performances with the Midland Symphony Orchestra, as well as performing with a select choir at the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) Convention in Chicago. Mrs. Wheeler most recently obtained her Level One teaching certification in Orff Techniques from the Orff Collage.

Mrs. Wheeler is the Chancel Choir Director for the United Methodist Church in Cadillac, Michigan. She has also been a featured speaker at conferences for future educators, having presented at the S.T.A.R.S. (Start Teaching and Reach Students) and L.T.T.C. (Learn Today, Teach Tomorrow) conferences held at Central Michigan University.


Mrs. Wheeler previously taught for Cadillac Area Public Schools in Cadillac, Michigan as a middle school, junior high, and high school choir director. She also taught elementary general music classes and junior/high school bands. Before joining the staff at CAPS, she was the Pre-Kindergarten – 12th grade vocal and general music teacher at Cadillac Heritage Christian School.

Musical theater has been a lifelong passion and Mrs. Wheeler’s repertoire includes leading roles in 
Brigadoon,The Sound of Music, and the role of “La Ciesca” in the Puccini opera Gianni Schicchi. Other productions includeWest Side StoryThe King & IAnnie Get Your GunThe Music Man, and the play Dead Easy. She has also done extensive musical and dramatic works through her church, including directing of the adult and children’s choirs. Mrs. Wheeler began her solo career at age three and was regularly performing on a local radio show by age five. She has traveled throughout the United States performing gospel concerts with her family, as well as various gospel groups. 


Mrs. Wheeler studied voice with Dr. Eric Hoy Tucker at Central Michigan University where she performed in many recitals and vocal productions. She maintains a full studio of private voice and piano students in Cadillac, Michigan, where she resides.

Her volunteer activities include work as the Michigan Music Ministry Coordinator with the Christian Motorcyclists Association, where she and her husband also maintain the positions of Michigan Area Representatives.
