CMU School of Music
Announces Competition Winners
Central Michigan University
announces the winners of its 2013 Concerto/Aria Competition. Students selected
to appear with the CMU Orchestra this Spring include Midland senior Kevin
Keith, marimba; Allendale graduate student Elizabeth Cullen, tenor saxophone; Gowen
senior Danielle VanTuinen, euphonium.
The winning students perform April
18 at 8 p.m. in Staples Family Concert Hall* with the CMU orchestra under the
direction of Dr. José-Luis Maúrtua. The evening’s program will include Emmanuel
Sejourné’s Concerto for Marimba and
Strings, Russell Peck’s The Upward
Stream for tenor saxophone, and Vladimir Cosma’s Euphonium Concerto.
This year’s Concerto/Aria Competition featured performances
by undergraduate and graduate instrumental, vocal, and keyboard students, adjudicated
by James Hohmeyer of the Midland Center for the Arts, Fangye Sun of the Grand
Rapids Symphony, and Michael Kroth of Michigan State University’s College of
Music.
Winning the annual competition is the highest performance
honor a student can receive in the School of Music.
