​Dr. Jordan Shurr is an assistant professor in the Department of Counseling and Special Education at Central Michigan University. He has received degrees in special education for students with severe disabilities (B.S.), educational administration (M.S.), and special education (Ph.D.) from Purdue University. Dr. Shurr has over ten years of experience working towards increased access and independence for individuals with significant disabilities within various capacities including classroom teacher, assistive technology consultant, camp inclusion coordinator, researcher, and teacher educator. His areas of teaching specialization include behavior management, transition, severe disabilities, and assessment.
 
Dr. Shurr’s research interests include interventions and supports that increase access to literacy for students with intellectual disability as well as support and retention efforts for teachers of students with low incidence disabilities. His worked has been presented at national conferences and published in Education and Training in Autism and Developmental Disabilities, the Journal of Intellectual Disability Research, and Preventing School Failure.
 
Dr. Shurr has served as a board member for the Division on Autism and Developmental Disabilities as well as a conference proposal and textbook reviewer. He maintains professional membership in TASH and the Council for Exceptional Children including the subdivisions: Division on Autism and Developmental Disabilities, Division of Research, Technology and Media, and the Teacher Education Division.
