This minor has 12 required credits (4 courses) and 12 credit hours of electives which allow students to cultivate depth in their interest areas. Many of the courses in the minor count toward other majors and minors as well.
This interdisciplinary program draws primarily from psychology, health and biology, sociology, and human development and family studies. It is a useful complement to numerous majors including those preparing student for work in human service settings, recreation and leisure, health professions and medicine, marketing, public policy and planning, and in the design and construction of environments, products, and attire. Students seeking to work directly with older adults are encouraged to intern or volunteer in aging services to enhance their coursework.
To prepare for graduate studies, students are encouraged to participate in research with older adults.
