I can’t complete one or more of my learning objectives.
You should meet with your internship supervisor and come up with an activity that is not currently listed on your learning objectives. Then you need to email the requested change to the internship coordinator along with the learning objective that you wish to replace. The internship coordinator will let you know if it is an approved change.
Journals
I have exceeded my 300 hours of working, do I need to continue to send journals?
You do not need to continue to send journals, but you must notify the internship coordinator when you are sending your last journal for the summer.
I forgot to send you my journal from last week. Can I send it now that it is a week late?
Unfortunately you cannot receive credit for last week's journal because it is so late. If you have not heard from the internship coordinator by late Tuesday, you should be sending her an email asking if she received it.
Internship Evaluation
When and how will the internship evaluation be sent? What should I do with it?
The internship evaluation will be emailed to you sometime during the second week of July. You should either print it out or email it to your supervisor. After your supervisor has filled out the evaluation, he/she can either return it to you to include with the rest of your internship materials or may return it directly to the internship coordinator.
Internship Hours
It is the end of the internship and all my hours are due, but I have not yet received my final paycheck stub. What should I do?
You should write a note indicating how many hours your are owed and have your supervisor sign it. This should be included with the rest of your internship materials.
I am not being paid for my internship, how should I keep track of my hours?
You need to go to the internship website and get the unpaid internship form.
What if I need more hours after August 2nd? When does my supervisor need to send you a note about it?
You may count hours only up until the first Friday following August 2nd. Since all your materials are due to the internship coordinator by August 2nd, your supervisor should write a note indicating how many hours you will work between the time you mailed me your materials and the first Friday after the 2nd. This note should be included with the rest of your internship paperwork.
My paycheck stubs keep a running tally of how many hours I have worked. Do I have to submit all my paycheck stubs or just that last one?
If your paycheck stubs keep a running total of hours, then you only need to submit the last paycheck stub.
Depending on my tasks for the day, I may be working with a different staff member at the company. Should I have that particular employee sign as my supervisor for that day on my unpaid hours sheet, or just one consistent signature on every date?
It does not matter. You may choose whatever is most convenient for you and your employer.
Submitting Assignments
Can I turn in my internship materials to the internship coordinator’s office?
You may bring your internship materials to campus rather than mailing them if you wish. Materials should be turned in to the main HEV office in Wightman 205. The office is open M-F 8:00 – 4:00.
I was just wondering if my paper and portfolio can all be combined into one large binder or if they should be turned in as separate items? I was thinking about having separate sub-title pages per project/section, but combining them all into my portfolio binder in sheet protectors.
The paper should not be in the portfolio nor should it be put into plastic sheet protectors. The reason is that if I want to mark on a page, then I have to take each piece of paper out of the plastic sleeve, mark it, and then put it back. The paper should be bound in some way, either three-holed punched and put into a ringed binder or spiral bound.
Miscellaneous
Do I need to let the internship coordinator know that I am going on vacation?
Yes. You must notify the internship coordinator when you will be on vacation so that she is not expecting a journal from you.
