I see teaching, mentoring and research with students as crucial to academic development. My research interests include morbidity-related dietary changes and effects on nutritional status, diet-related problems in vulnerable populations, and food and social factors of nutrition (food and culture). My research interests in vulnerable populations also include international nutrition in developing countries, related to iodine, iron, protein and vitamin A deficiency disorders. Essential components of my research are anthropometric and dietary assessments, field surveys, and nutritional intervention. I take inspiration from the fact that a number of my former students are professors in the U.S. and other countries.
