When should I visit with my major advisor?  [ top]
You should visit with you major advisor as soon as possible. Your outdoor and environmental recreation advisor will provide you a sequence of courses for proper planing. You major advisor becomes your mentor and will prepare you to locate and begin an internship.

How can I get involved with volunteer organizations?  [ top]
Your advisor can give you suggestions for volunteer organizations in the Mid-Michigan area. As an outdoor and environmental recreation student, you will need 180 hours of recreation experience; 90 hours must be in an outdoor and environmental setting. This experience can be paid or voluntary.

How many credits will I earn for my internship experience?  [ top]
You will earn 30 credit hours on the B.A.A. degree and 15 credit hours on the B.A. or B.S. degrees toward graduation for your internship experience. Prior to this experience, you will enroll in RPL 310 (1) Pre-internship in Leisure Services.

Where are students doing internships?  [ top]
Outdoor and environmental recreation students are placed in internships though out the United States. They may elect to complete an internship with a federal, state or local agency; a private organization; a nonprofit organization; camps; zoos; museums; parks; nature centers; adventure education sites; and others.

What minor is required for the Outdoor and Environmental Recreation major?  [ top]
You are required to earn a minor in Natural Resources, Earth Science, Geology, or Environmental Studies (B.A.A. only) to successfully complete an outdoor and environmental recreation major. An advisor in either the Biology, Geography, or Geology departments will sign your minor.
