The provisional certification is the initial teaching license/credential
issued in Michigan upon successful completion of an approved teacher
preparation program and passage of the Michigan Test for Teacher
Certification (MTTC). In Michigan individuals are required to
successfully complete a course in adult/child cardio-pulmonary
resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid prior to being issued an initial
teaching certificate. Central Michigan University will not confirm any
teacher candidate for certification without assuring that the
adult/child CPR and First Aid requirement for certification has been
met.
The provisional certificate is valid for up to six years and can
be renewed for three years, provided the applicant presents nine
semester hours of credit in a planned program as approved by the
university when earned after the issuance of the initial certificate. A
second three-year renewal may be granted provided the applicant
presents eighteen semester hours of credit in a planned program as
approved by the university when earned after the issuance of the initial
certificate.
The provisional certificate application is
submitted on line through The Office of Professional Preparation
Services, the Michigan Online Educator Certification System (MOECS). For
