CMU's Northern Student Teaching Center (231-218-9678) looks forward
to working with you as you prepare to begin your student teaching
experience.
The student teaching field experience requires a 16-week field
experience in a Pre-K through 12th grade setting. This placement is
dependent on the type of teacher certification and endorsements each
individual teacher education student is pursuing.
After attending the Student Teaching Application meeting and
submitting a student teaching application each prospective student
teacher will be assigned to one of the eight student teaching centers in
Michigan, as well as be assigned to a university coordinator.
In addition to the typical student teaching field experiences, a
student teacher may participate in one of four international student
teaching experiences offered by the Department of Teacher Education and
Professional Development. The international placements are 8-week
programs. A student teacher would be assigned to a preK-12 district for
eight weeks in Michigan and then complete eight weeks of student
teaching in the international setting. These three sites are:
- Ghana, Africa - fall semester
- Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic - spring semester
- Perth, Australia - spring semester
There are additional student expenses to participate in these
international programs. For additional information regarding the
international experiences expenses please visit the Office of International Affairs.
Central Michigan University is proud of its Teacher Education program
and the unique field experiences that are available for the development
of quality future teachers. CMU is an active participant in the annual
MATE Michigan Student Teacher-of-the-Year program and TEPD is pleased to
note that CMU student teachers have won the award in two of the last
three years.
