The Central Michigan GEMS Education Center is dedicated to the improvement of math, science, technology, and environmental education teaching and learning K-16, and to the associated generation and communication of knowledge about science, math, technology, and environmental education teaching and learning.
The Center accomplishes its mission through the active collaboration among science educators, math educators, scientists, and school-based colleagues.
Great Explorations in Math and Science is an exemplary curriculum. Our network of statewide math and science teacher leaders are a key resource for education throughout the state of Michigan.

Build It! Festival
|
This GEMS festival session includes a wide assortment of classroom learning-station activities that emphasize construction, geometric challenges, and spatial visualization. |

Schoolyard Ecology
|
Children work in teams outdoors to sample, record, and analyze information about living organisms, then return to the classroom to share their findings and explore science concepts. |

Treasure Boxes
|
In this engaging, innovative series of mathematical activities, children create personal collections of recycled, "found", and inexpensive objects and investigate their properties. |

River Cutters
|
Students create river models and begin to undestand rivers as dynamic, eve-changing systems. They investigate the concepts of erosion polluion, toxic waste, and human manipulation of rivers. |

Investigating Artifacts
|
This unit presents activities related to anhropology, archaeology, and diverse Native American and world cultures. Students classigy material objects found on a walk, make masks, and create stories. |
